I need advice on CMS & Website Design

I need advice from any and all my web designer savy friends. I'm 85% done with my New Wisconsin camp website. Last minute I want it to be CMS based. I'm planning on moving my site to GoDaddy servers which is Wordpress friendly.
Here is my question, do I scrap the entire site and build it around Wordpress or is there an easier way to plugin content into the php pages I've already designed? Or Should I use another Content Management System in lieu of Word press? Any advice would be great.

I get to run my own camp next summer! "Good Times" is coming to Naperville.

Friends, I'm very excited to announce that for the summer of 2012, I will be starting a Good Times Summer Day Camp branch in Naperville, Il based out of the Players Indoor Sports Center. Since I started camp back in 1986 as a camper, this has been my dream to run my own summer camp. This was a very hard decision to make because of all of the relationships I've forged over the years with the Glenview campers, parents, and staff. One of the greatest privileges I have is watching children grow up from babies at Poko Loko to young adults going to college. Starting a new camp, I won't get to do that in Glenview anymore. But for me to grow professionally, I needed to do this. I'll still be involved with the Glenview & Libertyville Good Times Camps, just not in the day to day operations during the summer. I'm sad I'm not going to be in Glenview to play Bumper Kick ball or look over the latest Poko Loko alumni, but I'm very excited to bring a fun and exciting summer to the families in the Dupage County area.

The Good Times Naperville camp will be based out the Players Indoor Sport Center and will have shuttle buses from Downers Grove High School and Wheaton North High School every morning. Every Monday & Wednesday there will be field trips to places like Great America, Lincoln Park Zoo, Enchanted Castle, and Pump It Up. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the camp will be swimming at pools such as Splash Country Water Park, Rice Water Park, Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center, & Turtle Splash Water Park. We will play a variety of sports and have fun events every day like potato sack racing, cake decorating contests, and squirt gun wars. We'll end the week with a fun themed cookout. Campers come weekly or daily and there will be no minimum enrollment.

Online registration starts today. If a family registers by December 1st they will get a 10% discount off tuition! Parents only need to put down a $100 deposit per camper. Parents don't need to worry about when the kids are going now, because campers' final schedules are not due until May 15th.

There will be a lot of work going into this project. I've spent many late nights in my office getting the new camp rolling. I'll be sure to blog about my experience and challenges along the way. If you ever been to any of the Good Times camps or sent your children there, please tell your friends and family in the Naperville area about all the "Good Times" your family has had at our camps.

I'll be at Players on Saturday, November 5th from 9am to 5pm to talk about the upcoming summer. Drop on by if you are in the area. Wish me luck on this new adventure. I'm scared, thrilled and excited with this new challenge.

On the Horizon...just past the hills

Something big is happening. I can't talk too much about it now. Maybe next week. Anyway, I was reading an article from the Chicago Tribune on Theo Epstein, the Chicago Cubs' new President of Baseball Operations. Theo had a quote that stuck with me.
"Football legend Bill Walsh used to say that coaches and executives should seek change after 10 years with the same team. The theory is that both the individual and the organization benefit from a change after so much time together. The executive gets rebirth and the energy that comes with a new challenge; the organization gets a fresh perspective, and the chance for true change that comes with new leadership. This idea resonated with me. Although I tried my best to fight it, I couldn’t escape the conclusion that both the Red Sox and I would benefit from a change sometime soon."
Change is a good thing. Right now I feel an energy I haven't felt since I did my first half Ironman back in 2010. A big change is coming for me. Though this upcoming challenge can be just as long if not longer then a 70.3 Triathlon.

My Recent Visit to Santa's Village.

That is one big candy cane I'm standing next to.On Saturday I went to Santa's Village in Dundee, IL. The first thing people say is, "is that place still open?" the answer is sort of. I got a email saying that Santa's Village is now under new ownership and is now open and ready for summer. I was excited because I haven't been to Santa's in six years. Last time I went there, I was a camp counselor. Like many of you I went there as a child. I rode the sky liner, the yo yo, the himalayas, the galaxy and the tea cups till I puked or got a sunburn. I went to check it out to see if it was a decent field trip for my camp or child care center.
Unfortunately it is half of it's former glory. If you went to Santa's Village six years ago, the place was falling apart. When I heard it closed the next year, it was no surprise. It was sad, but no surprise. So flash forward to the summer of 2011.
Santa's Village is now half of what it is. The south half of the park, where the train, octopus, bumper cars, yo-yo, gallon, skyliner, and the firetruck resided is now a giant playground for paintball. The north half is now a kiddie child petting zoo with small rides for the young children. Yes even the tea cup rides are gone. There are some familiar rides like the hot air balloons, space ships, the Big rig truck, and even the giant slide is still there. Rumor has that the dragon coaster and the gallon will make a re-appearance this summer. The water park might even re-open next year.
Since the place is now owned by A Zoo To You, the place is a petting zoo. There are some exotic animals as wells farm animals that the kids can interact with which I think is nice touch. The food isn't that expensive either.
Next question, "is it worth it to bring my children there and make the trek?" I think the place is great for children under the age of 7. The cost is $16.50 a person and parking is free. I think with 2 or three kids you can easily spend 2-3 hours here. Don't go expecting to relive your childhood memories, go here for a nice time for your family.
If your a summer camp director looking at it the cost is $12.50 a person with a group of 20 or more. Adults aresfree for every 20 children. In my opinion, Don't take your older kids to Santas. Maybe in a few years this place will be something cool to go to if a few more rides pop up and the water park is up and running. In summary, as of now Santa's Village in Dundee is a great field trip for early child care centers, nannies with children, summer camps with young children, and families with young children.

My first Blog on this Summer Camp Blog of mine

I decided to start a dedicated blog about summer camp. I'll write about my experiences, current summer camp topics, and events happening in the world of summer camp.

Right now I'm just excited for warmer weather. My camp, Good Times Day Camp, is taking in registrations. I'm just giddy to see all the campers & ready to have some fun in the sun.
